Ibiza was at the mercy of a London invasion last night, with the likes of One-man, So Solid Crew and Skepta making up the bill for the final Rinse FM takeover of We Are Rockstars this season. There was enough attitude from our capital’s finest to fill fifty swimming pools, but thankfully, talent matches their confidence and so a night of bass, ferocious lyrics and dynamite drama ensued.
Rinse FM’s Oneman kicked things off with a set list of garage tracks old and new, successfully getting people in the mood for the night’s live performers. So Solid Crew blazed a trail on stage in the way they always used to; the years clearly having done nothing to diminish their scintillating swagger. We were swept back to the years when Bound 4 Da Reload and Oh No That’s The Word were radio regulars, the tunes sounding as fresh today as they did back then. And they can still count on plenty of So Solid soldier support – a group in the front row mouthed word for word to almost every tune, much to the obvious delight of Mega and Co. 21 Seconds sent the crowd into a frenzy – you can understand why So Solid are back with a vengeance.
Back at Rocks for the second time, but this time headlining, was Skepta, who at his own admission, was fulfilling a lifetime dream on the Rocks stage. Clearly in his element, he delivered massive tunes in his inimitable style, spitting lyrics with a ferocity that can’t be matched. With genuine appreciation for the crowd, he delivered an expectantly intense performance that saw them grinding with every bass-infused anthem. Joined on stage at one point by So Solid’s Mega, we witnessed a London love-in on stage, with predictably fierce some results. Skepta ended his set with a mash up of house tunes which was a surprising twist to the night, but the crowd couldn’t get enough and were jumping for the sky by the time he’d finished with them. These boys have grafted to earn their place on the Rocks stage and it doesn’t look like they’ll be losing their spot any time soon. London did good.
